SAVAR, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS) - A three-day 'Basic Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Training' organized by the Human Rights Development Center (HRDC) was held in Savar.

The training concluded on Thursday with the distribution of certificates and volunteer ID cards to the participants at a function at the Vark Training Center.

The event's chief guest was Professor Dipak Kumar Roy, President of the Savar Conscious Citizens Committee (SONAK) TIB while Advocate Nazrul Islam, President of HRDC, presided over it.

Mahabul Haque, HRDC's Secretary General and CEO, delivered the speech of the chief discussant. The training was directed by Jianur Kabir, HRDC's Director (Mental Health).

HRDC psychologists Farzana Akter and Sharmin Akter Shanti served as associate trainers during the program.

Trainees shared their positive experiences, emphasizing that the training taught them how to behave with people and how to improve their own mental development.

They stressed that such training is highly necessary for every person.

Participants universally felt benefited, noting that the discussions were practical and the environment was welcoming.

Professor Dipak Kumar Roy echoed the sentiment regarding the importance of the training and stated that he learned how to show empathy and how to take care of people.

Professor Roy suggested that the country would advance further if such training were extended to students at the school and college levels.

The HRDC project aims to train 200 people in phases. The graduates of this program are expected to provide basic mental health services to the general public starting after July. The project is designed to operate across six districts of the country.
