RANGPUR, Mar 7, 2025 (BSS) – As harvest of groundnut continues in full swing with a bumper yield, the price of the groundnut has made farmers happy during the current Rabi season in Rangpur region.

Farmers are selling newly harvested groundnuts to wholesalers at excellent rates between Taka 4,500 to 4,800 per mound (every 40 kg).

“Groundnut farmers are earning an average profit of Taka 80,000 by producing 25 to 30 mounds of groundnut per acre of land after deducting the production costs of Taka 25,000 per acre,” groundnut trader Mokhlesur Rahman told BSS.

Officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) said a target of producing 12,380 tonnes of groundnut from 5,761 hectares of land has been fixed for all five districts in the region this season.

However, farmers have cultivated groundnut in 5,679 hectares of land, said Deputy Director of the DAE’s Rangpur region Afzal Hossain.

DAE expanded cultivation of its high yielding varieties. So far farmers harvested 7,786 tonnes of groundnuts from 3,399 hectares of land.

Afzal Hossain said cultivation of groundnut has become a very highly profitable venture following its increasing demand in the country’s boosting food industries.
