DHAKA, April 23, 2025 (BSS) - The Entomology Division of the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) has achieved significant success in paddy production without using pesticides.

To manage insect-pests in an environmentally friendly way, a field trial was recently implemented by non-governmental organizations Solidarity and Jagrani Chakra Foundation with technical assistance from BRRI.

Talking about field trial, Solidarity program officer Raihanul Islam Chowdhury today said that for field testing, Bri-105, known as diabetic rice, was cultivated on 10 bighas of land in three upazilas of Jashore and Narail in the fiscal year 2024-25.

No pesticides were used on five bighas of land and paddy was cultivated here with the help of eco-engineering technology, he said.

Another 5 bighas of land adjacent to this land was selected to cultivate paddy using conventional methods, he added.

With the use of eco-engineering technology in five bighas of land, paddy was cultivated more than the adjacent land with low cost where traditional method was used, he said.
