MANIKGANJ, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - The harvesting of wheat was completed in the district with a bumper production, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said.
The farmers in the district achieved a bumper production of wheat during the current season amid suitable climatic conditions everywhere in the district.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said that they set a target to cultivate wheat on 800 hectares of land with a production target of 2,720 metric tons.
But farmers cultivated wheat on 852 hectares of land exceeded its fixed target, the sources added.
In recent years, the cultivation of wheat declined in the district, but the farmers are showing interest to cultivate this food grain in all seven upazilas of the district for its demand.
Abdul Mozid, a farmer of village Baghutia of Daulatpur upazila, said the condition of wheat farming was good since its farming started in the area due to suitable weather and fertile land this season. He said the supply of all agricultural inputs including seeds and fertilizers were completed in due time.
Md. Hamid Ali, one of the wheat cultivators under Sadar upazila of the district said, “Wheat farming has been enhanced to a greater extent in the region due to various reasons for the last couple of years. Wheat is one of the less-irrigation consuming crops and it has a great demand in the markets round the year.”
The harvesting of wheat has already been completed in all seven upazilas of the district, the DAE sources said.
Deputy Director of DAE Dr. Robiah Noor Ahmed said the cultivation of wheat has been increasing in the areas for its growing demand.
