NETRAKONA, April 30, 2025 (BSS) - Farmers in Netrakona haor areas are busy
harvesting Boro paddy, the biggest paddy crop, as 87 percent of paddy
harvesting has already been completed here.

In the district, everywhere they are busy cutting, threshing and drying the
paddy amid extreme hot weather. In some places, agricultural workers were
working in full swing while government-subsidized combined harvester machines
were being used in some fields to harvest the paddy.

Compared to the past several years, the farmers are expecting good production
this year as they got seeds, electricity, irrigation and fertilizers in due
time.

Mukhlesur Rahman, a farmer of Gaurakanda village in Mohanganj upazila, said
the yield of Boro rice has been good this time as the weather has been
favourable and the harvester machine has played a special role in harvesting
paddy in a short time and has given relief to the farmers in the haor areas.

Masud Rana, a farmer from Mendipur village of Mendipur union in Khaliajuri
upazila, said about 75 percent of the paddy in Khaliajuri haor has been
completed while the harvesting of paddy in other haor upazilas is almost
completed.

"The price of paddy is also quite good this year. And if the weather remains
good for the next few days, it will be possible to harvest all paddy
properly," he added.

The price of paddy is now available from Taka 800 to 1100 per mound depending
on its quality. It is expected that the price of paddy will increase further,
the farmer said.

Agriculturist Mohammad Nuruzzaman, deputy director of the Department of
Agricultural Extension (DAE), said this year, 1,85,460 hectares of land have
been brought under Boro cultivation in the district, of which, 41,075
hectares are in haor areas.

Officials and farmers are expecting to produce 4,42,337 metric tonnes of rice
this year.

The agricultural department hoped that farmers will be able to finish
harvesting paddy within the next week.
