DHAKA, April 13, 2025 (BSS) – A special economic zone would be set up in the country for the investors of Nepal, said Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun today shared the information at a press conference held today at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital's Bailey Road area.

Besides, some eight agencies responsible for attracting investment would be brought under one umbrella while the governing board meetings of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) would be held in every three months.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, Head of Business Development of BIDA Nahian Rahman Rochi and Deputy Press Secretary of CA Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present.

The press conference was held to highlight the successes of the recently held Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025 in the country.

Ashik said it was discussed to provide any incentive to those investors (Bangladeshis) who want to make foreign investment here in Bangladesh.

He said that the Chief Adviser has directed to create a free trade zone centering the Matarbari Deep Sea Port and thus staking necessary steps so that countries like Bhutan and China can also avail the benefits.

Replying to a question, he said that the scrapping of the transshipment facilities by India has created a scope as it would pave the way for developing the airports at Sylhet, Dhaka, Chattogram and Syedpur.

It was also decided that the decision on formation of economic zones would be taken in the future through holding inter-ministerial meeting with the participation of all concerned utility agencies.

Such agencies should have commitments that they would provide necessary utility services following announcement of the zones.
