NBR Chairman visits Dhaka Customs House

DHAKA, July 7, 2025 (BSS) - Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Md Abdur Rahman Khan today visited the Customs House, Dhaka.

During the visit, he inspected the customs clearance activities at the import cargo complex, express service unit, and the customs operations at long room of Dhaka Customs House. 

At the long room, he interacted with officials and employees of various assessment groups on customs operations to learn about their work and enquired whether they face any problem. 

He instructed the Customs IT division to resolve the ongoing internet server issues promptly, said an NBR press release.

Rahman also suggested expediting the process of resolving goods lying at the Import Cargo Complex for a long time and directed that highest priority be given to the quick release of air-freighted goods. 

During the visit, the General Manager of Biman Bangladesh Airlines informed that, due to coordinated activities between Biman and Customs, the congestion of goods has now reached a much more tolerable level.

In the Express Service Unit, the NBR Chairman emphasized proper scanning of goods to facilitate faster release and held discussions with various stakeholders. 

He spoke to representatives of C&F agents, workers, and importers to understand their concerns and offered advice to resolve their issues.

The NBR Chairman also inaugurated the online tax payment process through the A-Chalan system. Additionally, he launched the Baggage Tax software to ease the process for expatriates for bringing goods and the DM software to ensure proper management of seized goods.

Describing customs houses as the center of trade facilitation, the NBR Chairman directed the officials to ensure that businessmen and expatriate passengers at airports do not face any harassment. 

He assured the officials and employees that those who perform their duties with integrity, efficiency, and diligence have nothing to fear. He also instructed them to continue port operations smoothly while prioritizing the interests of the country and the state.

He also expressed satisfaction over the overall operations of the Dhaka Customs House.
