Bangladesh, Thai business leaders for FTA to boost cooperation

DHAKA, July 9, 2025 (BSS)- Businessmen from both Bangladesh and Thailand have emphasized on enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two countries to expand markets in the Southeast and Asia-Pacific regions.
 
They also thought that implementation of a regional Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is essential in this regard.

These observations came at a meeting between the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Thai-Bangladesh Business Council held today in the capital’s Gulshan area.

FBCCI administrator Hafizur Rahman was in the chair while Panom Thongprayoon, Chargé d’Affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy to Bangladesh was also present.

Highlighting the trade potentials between Bangladesh and Thailand, FBCCI administrator Hafizur Rahman said, Thailand is one of the key commercial hubs in the Asia-Pacific region while Bangladesh boasts a vast pool of skilled and young manpower. 

He also underscored the need for a regional FTA to seize the market potentials and opportunities in the Southeast and Asia-Pacific regions.

Panom Thongprayoon, Chargé d’Affaires of the Thai Embassy expressed optimism that both sides would work closely to strengthen bilateral trade and mutual cooperation between Thailand and Bangladesh.
 
Panom also hoped that this meeting would further strengthen the networking among the business communities of both the countries.

Shams Mahmud, President of the Thai-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce; Munir Hossain, Senior Vice President of the Thai-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and former Vice President of FBCCI; Md. Alamgir, Secretary General of FBCCI; Zafar Iqbal, Head of FBCCI’s International Affairs Wing; leaders of the Thai-Bangladesh Business Council; and a number of businesspeople and entrepreneurs from both the countries were present.
