475 abandoned containers at Ctg port to be auctioned

CHATTOGRAM, July 14, 2025 (BSS): Chattogram Customs House has begun the auctioning process for 475 containers of goods that have been left at the Chattogram port for an extended period. 

This initiative has been taken to reduce the cargo congestion at the port following the direction of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). 

Additional Commissioner Md. Tafsir Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the matter on Monday. Various sources within customs and ports have reported that there are currently around 40,000 containers at the port with at least 10,000 of them remaining unattended for significant duration.
 
These abandoned containers have contributed to the port space crises. Goods imported between 2013 and 2023 that were not unloaded within the specified time have been marked as 'abandoned'. 

These containers are now being auctioned in accordance with the National Board of Revenue's special order titled 'Fast Auction, Bilibindej and Destruction Activities'.
