SEOUL, Dec 10, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - The CEO of South Korean e-commerce giant Coupang has resigned, the firm said on Wednesday, following a data leak believed to have affected almost two-thirds of the country's population.
CEO Park Dae-jun said in a statement he was "deeply sorry for having disappointed the public over the recent personal data incident".
"I take full responsibility for the occurrence of this incident and the handling process, and have decided to step down from all my positions," he added.
On Tuesday, Seoul police raided the firm's Seoul headquarters over the leak, affecting 33.7 million customers.
Seoul has said the leak took place through Coupang's overseas servers from June 24 to November 8.
The company only became aware of it last month, according to police and local media, when it issued a complaint against the alleged culprit -- a former employee who is a Chinese national.
The suspect is yet to be apprehended.
Coupang is now facing a class action lawsuit in the United States, where its global headquarters is, over the leak.
