DHAKA, Mar 5, 2026 (BSS)- The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at transforming Bangladesh's apparel industry from a "Factory Nation" to an "Innovation Nation" by 2030.

The MoU was signed today at the BGMEA Complex in the capital's Uttara area with a vision to reposition Bangladesh's readymade garment (RMG) sector as a modern, sustainable and innovation-driven industry in the global market.

The partnership will implement a strategic roadmap titled "From Factory Nation to Innovation Nation - Reimagining Bangladesh Apparel 2030."

Under this initiative, both organisations will work jointly to reshape the global narrative of Bangladesh's apparel industry and promote it as a responsible and green manufacturing hub.

BGMEA Vice President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman and BBF Founder and Managing Director Shariful Islam signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.

Among others present at the signing ceremony were BGMEA Director Shah Rayeed Chowdhury; Chairman of the Branding Standing Committee Khan Monirul Alam (Shuvo); Chairman of the Publicity and Publications Standing Committee Masud Kabir; and Chairman of the Trade Fair and Event Standing Committee M. Sazedul Karim.

The major components of the MoU include: Formulating and executing a global branding and communication strategy to reposition Bangladesh's apparel sector as an innovation-led industry; Establishing a dedicated Innovation Lab at BGMEA to engage young innovators in solving key industry challenges; Launching a Leadership Academy to enhance the skills of mid- and senior-level industry professionals, with a special focus on nurturing women leadership; Organising youth festivals, campus ambassador programmes and national competitions to encourage talented students and young innovators to pursue careers in the apparel sector; Producing knowledge reports and case studies highlighting the success of environmentally friendly factories and supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); Strengthening global positioning by facilitating direct linkages between green factories and Japanese brands, and jointly developing a global sustainable fashion brand with designers from both countries; Ensuring BGMEA's participation in major international platforms such as the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity to showcase Bangladesh as a modern and sustainable apparel hub; Enabling BGMEA members to gain insights into modern branding, retail and digital marketing practices through participation in BBF's summits and regular knowledge-sharing platforms.

Under the MoU, BBF will provide strategic branding consultancy, knowledge support and enhance BGMEA's visibility across national and international platforms.

BGMEA, on the other hand, will contribute industry data, expert inputs and active participation from its member factories to ensure the successful implementation of the initiatives.

Both parties expressed optimism that the two-year partnership will boost the confidence of international buyers and investors and help establish Bangladesh as a world-class innovation-driven apparel hub by 2030.
