DHAKA, Mar 3, 2026 (BSS) - US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur arrived in Dhaka tonight on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening strategic ties and expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

"We warmly welcome Assistant Secretary S. Paul Kapur to Bangladesh. Assistant Secretary Kapur will engage with government officials and business leaders to strengthen US-Bangladesh strategic ties," the US Embassy in Dhaka said in a statement Tuesday night.

During his visit, Kapur is scheduled to meet senior government officials and business leaders to discuss expanding bilateral trade and investment, enhancing security cooperation and advancing shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region, US Mission Spokesperson Poornima Rai said earlier.

Prior to arriving in Dhaka, Kapur visited New Delhi from March 1 to 3, where he discussed regional security and shared Indo-Pacific priorities.

His visit comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries following the formation of Bangladesh's new government.

In recent days, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen held a series of courtesy meetings with newly appointed cabinet members, highlighting opportunities for cooperation across diverse sectors.
