DHAKA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) – National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan today said that the government has undertaken a series of initiatives to streamline tax procedures, aiming to make compliance easier for taxpayers while strengthening revenue collection.
“The reforms are part of a broader modernization drive within the NBR to enhance transparency, reduce complexity, and curb tax evasion,” he said.
The NBR chief made these remarks while speaking at a pre-budget meeting for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27 at NBR Bhaban in the city.
As part of the initiative, he said, the NBR is moving toward a more simplified and technology-driven taxation system, with a particular focus on high-risk sectors.
“We are planning to introduce a QR code system on packaged goods to curb value-added tax (VAT) evasion and enhance tax compliance across the retail market. This system will allow authorities to monitor production and distribution in real time, helping to prevent the circulation of non-duty-paid products and reduce revenue leakage,” he added.
The chairman expressed optimism that the combined use of digital enforcement tools and structural tax reforms will significantly improve compliance, enhance efficiency in tax administration, and ultimately contribute to sustainable revenue growth.
