TANGAIL, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - At least 54 people were injured in dog bite incidents in Sakhipur upazila of the district over a 24-hour period, sparking panic among residents.

According to sources at the Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex, the injured individuals sought treatment between Sunday noon and Monday noon. Among them were 33 men and 21 women, including nine children.

Most victims are from Sakhipur Municipality and nearby unions such as Kalia, Baherataoil, Kakrajan, and Gazaria.

Due to the sudden influx, the Upazila Health Complex has run short of rabies vaccines. Authorities confirmed that all injured individuals received initial treatment.

Sakhipur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Rehana Parveen said “We have treated all injured patients, but due to limited vaccine supply, we could not vaccinate everyone. Some are receiving vaccines from outside sources,” she said.

Local administration is expected to take prompt action to control the stray dog population and ensure adequate vaccine supply to prevent further incidents.
