Elder brother dies after being pushed by younger brother in Paikgachha

KHULNA, April 27, 2026 (BSS) - An elderly man was killed after being allegedly pushed by his younger brother over a land dispute in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as Birendra Nath Bairagi, 75, son of the late Madar Bairagi and a resident of Navai (Ramchandra Nagar) village.

According to police and local sources, Birendra Nath had long been in conflict with his younger brother over property issues.

An argument broke out between the two at their residence around 9 am.

At one stage, the younger brother pushed Birendra Nath, causing him to fall. He died on the spot. Following the incident, the accused fled the scene.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paikgachha Police Station, Md. Golam Kibria, said that the victim had long been suffering from respiratory problems. 

After being pushed, he developed severe breathing complications, leading to his death at the scene.

Police visited the spot after being informed. The body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy after completing legal formalities. It will later be handed over to the family. Police have launched drives to arrest the accused, the OC added.
