17 arrested over snatching AL leader from police in Pabna

PABNA, Feb 03, 2025(BSS) - Police has arrested 17 persons for their alleged involvement in snatching an Awami League (AL) leader from the law enforcers conducting drive in different areas of Sujanagar upazila here.

Golam Mostafa, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sujanagar Thana said a joint force team raided different parts of Sujanagar upazila and arrested them after scrutinizing the video footage of the snatching incident on Sunday afternoon.

The operation of the joint forces would be continued and the rest of the persons who were involved in the incident will be arrested soon, he said.

Several hundred leaders and activists of local Awami League attacked a police van and snatched away Sujanagar upazila AL president and former upazila chairman of Sujanagar Abdul Wahab in front of Mathurapur High School under Sujanagar municipality on Sunday afternoon.

Police earlier arrested him from the area and tried to take him to Sujanagar Thana. At least eight police personnel were also injured in a clash with the AL workers at that time.

Sub-Inspector Azahar Ali of Sujanagar Thana filed a case in this connection.

Abdul Wahab is accused of several cases for his alleged involvement in the attack on the activists of anti-discrimination student movement during the last July-August uprising.

Meanwhile, the leaders and activists of local BNP and Jamaat brought out separate processions and held rallies at the upazila headquarters on Sunday night.

They protested the attack on the on-duty police personnel and demanded their immediate arrest.
