Former acting mayor of Sylhet, six others arrested

SYLHET, Feb 17, 2025(BSS) - Former acting mayor of Sylhet City Corporation 
Azam Khan and six others were arrested from the city and the district under 
‘operation devil hunt’ during last 24 hours till this morning.

The joint forces comprising police, RAB and army raided different parts of the 
city and arrested Md Azam Khan, also a leader of Awami League Sylhet city unit. 
He was the councilor of ward number 27 of the Sylhet City Corporation. 

The joint forces also arrested - banned Chhatra League leader Sairul KABIR 
Sanjoy, his brother Bangabandhu Juba Parishad leader Sunny Kabir, Abdul Basit 
alias Mokon Miah, Juba League leader of Tetli union under South Surma Thana 
and Md Moinul Islam, Library secretary of district Tanti League.

Meanwhile, a team of RAB-9 raided Goabari area of the city and arrested Helal 
Miah, Assistant Office Secretary of city Juba League. Helal, son of Sultan Miah 
of Korerpara area was accused in an explosive case. 

He was later handed over to Kotwali Thana.
