Banned Chhatra League leader arrested in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 20, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of Kurigram district police arrested banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Saddam Hossain Nayan from Rangpur metropolis last night.
 
Arrested Saddam was the general secretary of the Kurigram district unit of banned organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League.
 
"The BCL leader was arrested from the city's Jahaz Company Intersection area on Wednesday night," Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station Md Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS.  

There are multiple criminal cases against Saddam, including the Ashiq murder, tender rigging and attempt to murder and attacks on the anti-discrimination student movement during the July-August Uprising.
 
Saddam had been in hiding since August 5. Based on a secret tip-off, Kurigram District DB police arrested him with assistance of the Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station.
 
"After the arrest of Saddam, he was taken to Kurigram Sadar police station by the Kurigram District DB police," OC Ataur Rahman added.
