KHULNA, March 20, 2025 (BSS) - Government has distributed free jute seeds to farmers at Paigachha upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The Department of Jute, under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, launched the free jute seeds distribution programme as part of the "Production and Expansion of Jute and Jute Seeds Using Advanced Technology" project.

Upazila Administration and the Department of Jute jointly organized the programme aiming to ensure the use of advanced technology in jute cultivation, thereby increasing production and contributing to the economic prosperity of farmers

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahera Nazneen inaugurated the program as the chief guest held at the upazila parishad premises.

In her address, the chief guest emphasized that the interim government is committed to restoring the golden era of jute, Bangladesh's golden fiber.

"Steps have already been taken to reopen the jute mills that were shut down across the country, including in the Khulna region," she said.

Initially, farmers from Gadaipur union received the jute seeds. A total of 1,900 jute farmers from the unions of Haridhali, Kapilmuni, Gadaipur, Raduli, and Chandkhali will be provided the seeds respectively.

Upazila assistant commissioner (Land) Md. Iftekharul Islam Shamim, assistant agriculture extension Officer Md. Shahjahan Ali, sub-assistant Jute development officer Aniruddha Kumar Baidya, beneficiary jute farmers, among others, attended the event.
