RHD evicts illegal structures in Cumilla on Dhaka-Ctg highway

CUMILLA, Mar 20, 2025 (BSS)- Roads and Highway Division (RHD) today evicted over 500 roadside illegal structures at Suagazi area on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

Several hundred illegal shops and other establishment were built up at Suagazi Bazar under Cumilla Sadar Dakkhhin occupying the land of RHD.


The RHD and local administration served several notices on the illegal occupants to remove their establishments but they did not pay heed to it.

Recently, the district administration in a meeting on law and order marking Eid-ul-Fitr decided to evict those establishments from the highway immediately.

Syed Refay Abid, Assistant Commissioner of Cumilla Sadar Dakkhhin led the eviction drive where RHD Sub-Divisional engineer Md Adnan Ibn Hassan and representatives from Army, Police and other agencies were present.

Local businessmen alleged that they were not earlier noticed to remove their establishment and they are now under open sky. 

When contacted, Sub-Divisional engineer of Cumilla RHD Adnan Ibn Hassan said the eviction drive was carried out free the area from traffic congestion.

Such drive would continue in other areas on the highways, he said.
