National, Int'l Sports Day observed in Cumilla

CUMILLA, April 6, 2025 (BSS)- The National and International Sports Day-2025 was observed here today in a befitting manner. 

This year's theme of the day is "Youth Participation, Improving the Quality of Sports".

Marking the day, the District Administration and the District Sports Office jointly brought out a colourful rally from Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium, also known as Cumilla Stadium, at 10 am and ended at the same venue after parading different city streets and points.

Additionally, a discussion was held at the stadium with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Pankaj Barua in the chair. 

Member of District Sports Organization Ahasan Ullah Shapon and former Joint-Secretary of the Cumilla District Sports Organization spoke in the event, among others.

The discussion was attended, among others, by former treasurer of District Sports Organization Sheikh Sohrab Uddin Rajib, President of Cumilla District Karate Association Gazi Mamun, Cumilla Zilla Cricket Coach Habib Moballeg James and renowned sports persons and organisers of the district.                                                                                        

The speakers said, "Sports play an important role in developing the intellectual and critical thinking skills of children and youth by fostering a competitive spirit, a sense of discipline, perseverance, responsibility and a sense of duty."

They emphasized the key role of sports in keeping the young generation away from drugs and crime and the essential need for infrastructural development in sports.

Later, a friendly cricket match was arranged after the discussion.
