DHAKA, Aug 27, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is the main inspiration for establishing a developed and democratic society.

"National poet Kazi Nazrul is the main inspiration for establishing an advanced and democratic society," he told media after paying tributes at the poet's grave on Dhaka University premises on his 49th death anniversary this morning.

Highlighting various aspects of the poet's ideology, Rizvi said: "When the nation is at a loss and directionless, his writings become an ideal. From the anti-British movement to the 2024 mass uprising, the poet's writings have always been relevant."

The BNP leader also said the spirit of Nazrul is the main mantra for building an advanced and democratic society as he was an inspiration of the July mass uprising as well as other national movements and struggles.

"Although the autocratic government has fallen, democracy has not yet been established in the country. If the free and fair elections are held before Ramadan, the voting rights of the people being deprived for 15 years will be restored," he added.

Rizvi continued, "To establish a developed and democratic society, we all must move forward together."

He said that the spirit of unity was also present in Nazrul's creations, and Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman have also continued their struggle cherishing the spirit of poet Nazrul.
