CHANDPUR, April 7, 2025 (BSS) - Nine insolvent and ailing journalists have received cheques amounting Tk 4,00,080 from the Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust (BJWT) .

BJWT managing director Mohammad Abdullah distributed the cheques among the recipients as chief guest at a programme at the Chandpur Press Club today.

Chandpur deputy commissioner Mohsin Hasan presided over the programme. Press club president Rahim Badsha and superintendent of police Mohammad Abdur Rakib spoke at the event as special guests.

Mohammad Abdullah said deserving journalists have received the financial assistance this time whereas journalists were nominated for the financial support based on their political affiliations during the last government regime.

“This discrimination won’t happen again in the new Bangladesh, achieved through the student-mass uprising. Deserving journalists will get the financial aid from now on,” he said.

Chandpur Press Club general secretary Kader Palash moderated the programme.
