Three people drown in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, April 9, 2025 (BSS) – A woman and two children drowned in separate incidents at Sadar upazila here today.

A woman and her son drowned in a pond while they were taking bath around 10 am at Bakharpur village under Chandra union of the upazila.

The deceased were Khadija Akhter, 30, her minor son Abu Bakar, 7.

Family sources said Khadija and her two children came to visit her father's house in Bakharpur village. She went to the pond with her two sons to take a bath.

However, they didn’t know how to swim. When the two sons drowned in the water, the mother first rescued the elder son, while trying to rescue the younger son both (mother and her son) drowned in the pond.

Later, the family members rescued them and took them to Chandpur Government Jalal Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

Kulsuma, the sister of the deceased, said that Khadija came to visit her father's house yesterday from Faridpur. She lives in Dhaka with her husband Lokman. They were supposed to go to Dhaka today.

In another incident, two-year-old girl Maksuda drowned in a pond around 10.30 in Balia union of the upazila.

She was rescued from the pond and taken to Chandpur Government Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead.

She was the daughter of Md. Fazlur Rahman. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station Md. Bahar Mia confirmed the incidents.
