Nazrul's poems, songs inspired people in Liberation War, mass uprising of 2024: Tarique Rahman

DHAKA, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today said National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's poems and songs have provided courage and inspiration to the freedom-loving people of this country during the great War of Liberation, the mass movement of 1990 and the mass uprising of students and the people in July-August 2024.

He said this in a message on the eve of the 49th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on his verified Facebook page today.

Tarique Rahman paid profound tributes and loves to the poet on his death anniversary and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul.

He said Kazi Nazrul Islam, who was imbued with the spirit of rebellion, humanity, love and equality against injustice, passed away 49 years ago.

He (Kazi Nazrul Islam) was the leading poet, lyricist and musician of the 20th century Bengali language, he said adding although the poet dabbled into various branches of literature, his main identity was as a poet.

Tarique Rahman said Kazi Nazrul Islam grew up struggling with a difficult life since his childhood and that’s why protesting against injustice was innate in him.

“The poet inspired the oppressed to rebel against the oppressor...his poems, songs, stories, novels and articles have enriched our literary and cultural treasures. His poems and songs still give people a way to find freedom from exploitation and deprivation. His uncompromising struggle earned him the reputation of a rebel poet," he said.

Tarique Rahman said poet Nazrul's poems, songs and literary works have created a renaissance in Bengali literature. His literary works will inspire the people deprived of their rights for ages to protest courageously, said the BNP Acting Chairman.

Describing poet Kazi Nazrul Islam as a glowing example of human love, he said, “His works inspire us to love people and dedicate ourselves to their welfare. I believe that his literary works will inspire us to love our homeland forever."
