Lightning kills BNP leader in Kishoreganj

KISHOREGANJ, April 21, 2025 (BSS)- A leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party 
(BNP) died and two other farmers were injured after being struck by lightning 
in Pakundia upazila of the district today. 

The incident occurred around 7 am on Monday at Char Kawna Moishakanda area of 
Jangalia union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher Mia, 50, son of late Sirajul Islam 
of the area. 

According to locals, Taher Mia, a member of BNP's Jangalia Union Convener 
Committee, along with two farmers went to work in his vegetable garden early 
in the morning. Suddenly, rain accompanied by a storm began and they took 
shelter in a water pump house located on the land, they added. 

At that moment, lightning struck, killing Taher instantly at the scene and 
injuring two others.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakundia Police Station M 
Sakhawat Hossain said the body has been recovered and handed over to its 
family as there was no complaint.
