SATKHIRA, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a life-term convict who had been remained absconding for 11 years, in a case filed under the Narcotic Control Act.

The arrestee was identified as Ariful Islam Rasel, son of Esa Ali Sardar of Gunakorkati village under Assasuni upazila of the district.

Acting on a tip-off, a RAB team conducted a raid in the area and arrested Ariful Islam Rasel from the Boalia area under Paikgachha Police Station in Khulna district on Sunday, according to a press release issued today.

The arrestee has been handed over to Assasuni Police Station for taking further legal action.

A case was filed against Ariful under Narcotics Control act with Rajbari Sadar Police Station as he was arrested while transporting drugs in 2013. He was released on bail, but since then he had remained absconding.

Later, the court sentenced him, in absentia, to life-term imprisonment.
