DINAJPUR, April 21, 2025 (BSS) - A murder case has been filed in connection with killing of a prominent Hindu community leader Bhavesh Chandra Roy in the Biral upazila of Dinajpur.

The accused persons are- Atikur Islam (40) of Basudevpur village, Raton Islam (30) of Shohorgram, Munna Islam (27) of Narsingpara and Rubel (28) of Panchshala village.

According to the case diary Atikur and Raton had long been engaged in local money lending (locally known as dadon. Bhavesh reportedly borrowed Tk 25,000 from Atikur a year ago, with a verbal agreement to repay Tk 3,255 monthly as interest.

While Bhavesh had been paying the interest regularly, he fell behind on payments in recent months due to financial hardship.

In the afternoon on April 17, the accused persons arrived at Bhavesh's home on two motorbikes and lured him away under the pretense of discussing an urgent matter.

Swapan stated in the case that after his father left with the men, he was unreachable, and attempts to call him on his phone went unanswered.

Later, in the evening, Swapan received a phone call from his father's number, followed by another call from a different number. During one of the calls, Raton reportedly told Swapan that his father had fallen ill at Narabari Bazaar and asked him to come and receive him. As Swapan was in Dinajpur town at the time, he requested them to bring his father home.

Soon after, the accused persons allegedly transported Bhavesh to Fulbari Bazaar by a van-rickshaw and left the area leaving him by the roadside.

Locals took Bhavesh to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to police, further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to identify and apprehend the unnamed accused individuals.
