Historic May Day observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 1, 2025 (BSS) - The historic May Day and National Occupational Health and Safety Day 2025 was observed here today like other parts of the country with a fresh vow to uphold the rights of working people and maintain harmony between labourers and owners.
 
Leaders of different political parties, trade union bodies, labour and socio-cultural organisations observed the day with various programmes.

Programmes of the day included- hoisting national flag, rallies and discussion and cultural functions.

The theme of the day for this year is "Sramik Malik Ek hoye, gorbo E desh natun kore” 

Divisional office of the Labour Directorate, offices of the Divisional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments jointly organized a discussion at National Occupational Safety and Health Training and Research Institute (NOSHTRI) in the city.

Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Khandaker Azim Ahmed addressed the discussion as chief guest, while senior officials took part in the discussion with Deputy Commissioner Afiya Akhter in the chair. 
 
Speakers said working class people is the main driving force of the national economy. Their financial and social condition must be improved for development of the country.
 
They also laid emphasis on broader unity among the working class people to establish their legitimate rights.
 
Commissioner Azim Ahmed stressed the need for the safety of the labourers at their working places and reduction of child labourers so that they can grow up as healthy citizens of the country.
 
On the day local trade unions of bus, truck, minibus, tempo and mishuk operators took out separate processions in the city. The procession was followed by discussion and milad mahfil at their offices.
 
The leaders and members of the Imarat Nirman Shramik Association of Bangladesh (INSAB) brought out a procession.
 
Local unit of Jatiya Sramik Federation organised a rally in the city and held a discussion highlighting importance of the day.
 
Different political parties including BNP brought out colourful rallies, held discussions and cultural functions to mark the day.
 
Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Bangladesh Silk Development Board and Rajshahi Education Board also observed the day through separate programmes.
