Four children found dead in two days in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI, May 2, 2025 (BSS) - In a span of two days, bodies of four children were recovered from separate incidents in Narsingdi.
 
On Friday morning, the bodies of two schoolboys were retrieved from separate ponds in Joynagar village under Danga Union of Palash upazila and Ghorargao village in Shibpur upazila.
 
The deceased were identified as Habib Mia (12), son of Awlad Mia of Joynagar and a sixth-grader at Danga High School, and another Sifat (8), son of Mosharraf Hossain of Kumradi village in Shibpur upazila.
 
According to police and the victims’ families, Habib had gone to visit his grandmother’s house in the Fakira area of Hasanhata under Palash upazila on Thursday. He reportedly drowned while bathing in a pond.
 
Meanwhile, Sifat had gone missing on Thursday after visiting his uncle’s house in Ghorargao under Iayubpur union of Shibpur. His body was found floating in a nearby pond the following morning.
 
Md Rezaul Karim, Sub-Inspector of Palash Police Station, said that Habib’s body was recovered and sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for autopsy. “The family does not suspect foul play, but legal procedures are being followed,” he added.
 
Md Afzal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibpur Police Station said Sifat went to visit his paternal uncle Saiful Islam’s house in Ghorargao on Thursday and went missing shortly after arriving. Despite frantic searches by relatives, he remained untraced until locals discovered his body floating in a pond around 8:30am today. His family believes he drowned.
 
A day earlier, on Thursday afternoon, two more children drowned in a pond in Sonakura village under Chakradha union of Shibpur.
 
The victims were identified as Soha Akter (10), daughter of Abul Kashem of Sonakura, and Habiba Akter (9), daughter of Babul of Daulatpur village in Monohardi upazila. The two were cousins.
 
Relatives said Habiba was visiting her uncle’s house when she and Soha went to bathe in a nearby pond, where both drowned. They were rushed to Shibpur upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
