Khulna hosts fair promoting healthy city vision

KHULNA, May 03, 2025 (BSS) - A daylong 'Healthy City Fair' was inaugurated today at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna, aimed at transforming Khulna into a healthier city.

World Health Organization (WHO) and SIAM, NCDC, BCCP, non government organizations (NGO) and Khulna City Corporation jointly organized the fair.

Divisional Commissioner and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Md Firoz Sarkar inaugurated the event as the chief guest.

In his address, the divisional commissioner emphasized the importance of community participation in creating a healthier Khulna for future generations. 

"To build a healthy city, we must first change public attitudes towards health and wellness. This fair is a significant step forward and we should continue hosting such initiatives regularly," he said. 

He also instructed organizers to increase the number of stalls in future editions of the fair.

Earlier, the day began with the inauguration of a 7.5-kilometer marathon run by Abu Sayeed Md. Monjur Alam, additional divisional commissioner (development) of Khulna.

The marathon, which started and ended at Shaheed Hadis Park, passed through key city routes including Rupsha and the PTI intersection.
The race featured 150 participants from diverse professions and social groups, symbolizing collective support for a healthier urban lifestyle.

Notable attendees at the event included KCC Chief Executive Officer Laskar Tajul Islam, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, Additional Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Md. Abu Rayhan Muhammad Saleh, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Saikat Md. Rezwanul Haque, WHO Program Officer Asif Ahmed and SIAM Executive Director Advocate Md. Masum Billah.
