NETRAKONA, May 4, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death
for killing a garment worker in Durgapur upazila of the district in 2022.

District and Sessions Judge Md. Hafizur Rahman pronounced the verdict in
presence of the convict.

The court also fined Taka 50,000 to the convict Nizam Uddin, 33, son of Chan
Mia of Ajia village in Purbadhola upazila of the district.

According to prosecution, on November 18, 2022, Kamla Khatun, 26, a garment
worker of Durgapur went missing after leaving her home from Millgate area in
Tongi, Gazipur.

The next day, in the afternoon, police recovered the body of the woman from
Baluchara Bazar in Pabai Daspara, Khalisaura union under Purbadhala Police
Station in Netrokona district.

Kamala's elder brother filed a murder case with the Purbadhala Police
Station.

Later, police arrested Nizam Uddin in this connection.

After completing investigations, police submitted a charge-sheet to the court
on August 31, 2023.

The judge after examining 11 witnesses and evidence found the convict guilty
and handed down the punishment.
