Ctg has over 3 lakh new voters

CHATTOGRAM, May 22, 2025 (BSS) - The voters list in Chattogram district has seen an increase of over three lakh voters.

Talking to BSS, District Election Officer Bashir Ahmed said that after the update, the total number of voters in the district will be about 68.5 lakh. According to the updated voter list of the Election Commission, there are 3,04,283 new voters in Chattogram. 

As per the updated voter list, the number of voters in Banshkhali has increased by 22,822. In addition, there are 24,327 new voters in Anwara, 21,376 in Rangunia. 17,740 in Fatikchhari, 18,083 in Satkania, 15,051 in Mirsarai, 17,016 in Patiya, 16,748 in Hathazari, 16,062 in Sitakunda, 21,214 in Lohagara, 13,989 in Raozan, 13,796 in Sandwip, 12,805 in Chandanaish, 12,117 in Boalkhali and 7,247 in Karnaphuli upazila. 

The highest number of new registrations in the city was in the Double mooring area with 12,914 people while the lowest was in Kotwali thana with 5,400 people. Out of the 3,04,283 new voters, 77,670 are under the age of 18. 

 Nearly 93,837 people were excluded from the updated list due to death and 24,799 people were newly registered due to transfer to Chattogram district. 

Among these new registrations, only those above the age of 18 will be eligible to vote in the 2026 elections. The information collection for the 2025 voter list update in Chattogram began on January 20 with registration possible for individuals born on or before January 1, 2008, informed Bashir Ahmed. 

Biometric data collection is ongoing from February 5 to April 11, he added.
