RAJSHAHI, July 19, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 2,303 students from 56 schools in Rajshahi received prizes for their laudable performance in book reading today (Saturday).

They got the prizes in a colourful distribution ceremony held at Shilpakala Academy auditorium, hosted by Bishwa Sahitya Kendra (BSK). More than 6,000 students took part in the year-round book reading programme 2025 which helped flourishing their latent talents.

BSK, under its Book Reading Habit Programme, organised the programme supported by Grameenphone to give away prizes among the students who show good performance in the evaluation phase.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Khondoker Azim Ahmed accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter, Birds Specialist Inam Al Haque, BSK Trustee Dr Abdun Nur Tusser, Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education Abdur Rashid, Grameenphone Regional Head Mahmudul Hassan and BSK Director Shamim Al Mamun distributed the prizes.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Khondoker Azim Ahmed said, “ Books always make people beautiful, bright and prosperous. Only the people enriched with a prosperous heart can build bright Bangladesh”.

There is no alternative to book reading for building societies free from inequality and injustice, as only it can enlighten people and make them perfect.

Books help people acquire knowledge about the outside world, stressing the need for reaching books at the doorsteps of the readers to encourage them to read.

Khondoker Azim Ahmed also praised the BSK and grameenphone for continuing the book reading programme across the country.
