2 suffered burn injuries in gas cylinder explosion in Mirpur

DHAKA, Aug 17, 2025 (BSS) - Two were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion in a building at Mirpur Paikpara Officers Quarters in the capital on Saturday.
 
The injured were identified as Mohammad Al-Amin,30,and Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Sarkar,28, cylinder and gas mechanic by profession.
 
The incident took place around 4 pm on Saturday at Flat No. 8, Building No. 5, Mirpur Paikpara Officers Quarters.
 
Later, the burn victims were first taken to a local hospital from where they were transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS).
 
Khalilur Rahman, the elder brother of burn victim Al Amin, said, "On Saturday afternoon, we called mechanic Shafiqul when there was a problem with the cylinder gas at our house. All of a sudden, the gas cylinder exploded and my brother Al-Amin and the gas mechanic Shafiqul suffered burn injuries."
 
The doctor in charge of the emergency department of the burn institute said that the condition of both the patients is critical and both of them have inhalation burns.
 
Al-Amin has 30 percent burns on his body and Shafiqul has 15 percent burn injuries.
