RANGPUR, July 20, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested Manjurul Haque Manik, a former vice-president of the Rangpur metropolitan unit of now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), in connection with an attempted murder case related to an attack on the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement last year.

Manik was apprehended on Saturday night in front of the Abdul Khaleque students' mess in the Khamar Mour area of Rangpur city, said Md Ataur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station under Rangpur Metropolitan Police.

Prior to his role in the metropolitan unit, Manik also served as the joint convener of the BCL convening committee at Rangpur Government College.

The case against him was filed by Sahedul Islam Sagar, a resident of the Shantinagar Khamar area, who sustained gunshot injuries during the student movement.

Manik, a native of Sonakhuli village under Dimla police station in Nilphamari district, was produced before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court following completion of legal formalities. The court later sent him to jail.
