COX'S BAZAR, Aug 3, 2025 (BSS) - The Cox's Bazar District Council has taken initiatives to preserve the graves of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the ‘Mass Uprising’ in July-August 2024.
Talking to BSS, officials concerned mentioned that the district council has taken this initiative to present the sacrifice of martyrs before the next generations.
Four people were embraced martyrdom in Cox's Bazar district during the ‘Mass Uprising’ of July-August 2024.
They are Mohammad Wasim Akram of Pekua upazila under the district, Ahsan Habib of Chakaria upazila, Tanvir Siddiqui in Maheshkhali upazila and Nurul Amin in Eidgah upazila.
The works of building structures over the graves, cleaning and maintaining the graves of the martyrs have already been completed.
Assistant Engineer of Cox's Bazar District Council Mohammad Saifuddin said that structures are being built over the graves of the four martyrs in the same design like elsewhere of the country.
“Ceramic bricks are being used for the structures over the graves. Plaques made of Italian marble stone will be installed. These graves are being preserved after talking to the martyrs' families,” he added.
He said, “Plaques are being built in the schools associated with the martyrs. Blackthorn trees will be planted. Hopefully, the work of preserving the graves will be completed within two to three days.”
Saifuddin said that an initial allocation of Taka 3.52 lakh has been made for the preservation of the graves of the four martyrs. More money will be allocated if necessary, he added.
Martyr Wasim Akram's father Shafiul Alam said the government's initiative to preserve the graves of the martyrs during the mass uprising is truly commendable. This initiative of the government will play an important role to present the sacrifice of martyrs before the next generations, he added.
Chief Executive Officer of the District Council Mohammad Al-Maruf said, “It is our moral responsibility to honour the sacrifices of the martyrs to protect our freedom and democracy. This initiative is not just a tribute, but an attempt to keep this history alive.”
