TANGAIL, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - A traditional boat race was held in a festive atmosphere on the Elengjani River at Chilimpur Union in Tangail Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon.

The event, organized by the residents of Baruha village, drew a gathering of nearly 30,000 spectators who thronged both banks of the river to witness the thrilling competition.

Crowds including children, adolescents, women, men and the elderly began assembling by the riverside from early afternoon to enjoy the festivity, which started at 3:00 pm and continued until evening.

District BNP General Secretary Advocate Forhad Iqbal attended the event as the chief guest. In his speech, he said that boat racing is one of the most cherished traditional sports in rural Bangladesh.

"This is not merely a competition; it is a reflection of our roots, heritage and a symbol of social harmony. The boat race is deeply connected to Bengali culture and spirit and events like this introduce the younger generation to our rich traditions," he added.

After the competition, the chief guest distributed prizes among the winners.
 
Among others, Chilimpur Union BNP General Secretary Md Selim Reza, former registrar of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University Md Golam Maola and other local BNP leaders and activists, were present at the event.
