DHAKA, Oct 12, 2025 (BSS) - Primary and Mass Education Adviser Professor Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Podder today urged everyone to remain vigilant in preventing typhoid.

He made the call while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the "Typhoid Vaccination Campaign 2025" at Dhaka Residential Model College as the chief guest.

Professor Bidhan noted that typhoid remains highly prevalent across the country and its treatment often incurs significant costs. "Furthermore, the growing resistance to antibiotics has rendered many treatments ineffective, leading to the tragic loss of countless children each year. This underscores the urgent need to prioritize food safety, consistent hand washing, hygiene practices, and vaccination," he added.

He also emphasized the need for extensive promotion of the typhoid vaccination campaign to encourage other children to get vaccinated.

Health Services Division Secretary Md Saidur Rahman, Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana, Chief Health Officer of Dhaka North City Corporation Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, WHO Team Lead Sudhir Joshi, and Chief of Health of UNICEF Bangladesh Chandrashekhar Solaiman also spoke as special guests. Principal of Dhaka Residential Model College Brigadier General Md Jaber Hossain chaired the event.

Under this month-long programme, all children aged nine months to under 15 years will receive one dose of typhoid vaccine free of cost.
