Mirza Abbas, Rizvi, 165 others acquitted in police vehicles torching case

DHAKA, Oct 13, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today acquitted 167 people, including BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas and the party’s senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, of the charges in a case lodged over the torching of two police vehicles in 2018.

Judge Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order, accepting the final report submitted by the police in the case, defence counsel Mohiuddin Chowdhury told BSS.

The other prominent accused exonerated by the court are- Mohila Dal president Afroza Abbas, BNP vice-chairman Maj (Retd) Akteruzzaman, Kafil Uddin, Nabiullah Nabi, Habibur Rashid Habib, Belal Ahmed, Prof. Aminul Islam, Rafikul Islam Majnu, Jahir Uddin Tuhin, and Selim Bhuiyan.

Police filed a case on November 14, 2018, for obstructing them in performing their duties and torching two vehicles of the law-enforcing agency in the capital’s Naya Paltan area. Police on February 21, 2025, submitted final report in the case.
