COX'S BAZAR, 5 Dec 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Mahbub Morshed has said journalists in the country are currently able to work with freedom and independence.

"The interim government is prioritizing journalism and actively addressing various challenges faced by newspapers and journalists. As a result, journalists are now able to report freely and people can openly engage in discussions and criticism," said Mahbub Morshed, who is also a fiction writer.

He made the remarks on Friday evening while delivering the keynote speech at the inauguration and founders' reception ceremony of the Ramu Press Club in Cox's Bazar.

Highlighting the historic and cultural value of the area, the BSS chief said Ramu is a "living museum," rich in heritage and memories.

"The hills and the sea have inspired the people of this region to think big," he added.

He, however, noted journalism often becomes divided along political lines and stressed the need for unity among journalist organizations.

The event was chaired by Abul Kashem, the newly elected President of the Ramu Press Club, with General Secretary Ahmad Syed Forman conducting the programme.

Former MP for Cox's Bazar-3, Lutfur Rahman Kajal, attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Cox's Bazar City College Principal Akhtar Uddin Chowdhury, former District Education Officer Nasir Uddin and Ramu Merchants' Association President Ruhul Amin Rocky. Founding President of the Ramu Press Club, Amir Hossain Helali, also spoke at the event.

Later, Mahbub Morshed handed over crests to the founding members.
