Preparations afoot for Durga Puja celebration in Dinajpur

DINAJPUR, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - Preparation for celebrating the forthcoming Durga Puja, the largest religious festival for the Hindu community, is going on everywhere in the district.

Idol makers commonly known as Pauls are passing their busy times in the final touch works of the idols of Hindu deities. They are working round the clock to make sure that the idols are ready on time.

A total of 1,275 puja mandaps will be set up in all the 13 upazilas in the district this year

Of them, 162 in Sadar upazila, 98 in Birole, 161 in Parbatipur, 59 in Phulbari, 156 in Chirirbandar, 78 in Bochaganj, 136 in Khansama, 20 in Hakimpur, 163 in Birganj, 41 in Birampur, 67 in Nawabganj, 94 in Kaharol and 40 in Ghoraghat upazila.

Swarup Bakshi Bachchu, president of Dinajpur Puja Udjapan Parishad, said that this year Durga Puja will be celebrated 1,275 puja mandaps in the district.

Jagadhar Sarker, a craftsman, said he had almost finished the work of making seven Durga Puja idols in the city. 

A number of massive pandals are being set up for puja celebrations in the district. Idol artists are engaged in giving the final shape to idols of Goddess Durga and demon king Mahishasur round the clock in the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police Sifat E Rabban said, "We are determined to celebrate the religious festival amid enthusiasm and communal harmony. We have adopted tight security measures to make the durga puja celebration festive and successful."

Police and Ansar members will be deployed in more important temples. Besides, the volunteers in charge of the temple committee will serve as the associate of the law enforcement agencies. 

Police, RAB and Ansar members will have patrols under the leadership of the executive magistrate during the festival.

Additional District Magistrate Nur E Alam Siddiqui said that the monitoring room will be set up ahead of the festival at the Deputy Commissioner's Office which will be open for 24 hours.
