4000 sued in murder case over Rajbari shrine attack, 2 held

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - A murder case was lodged against 3500 to 4000 unidentified people on charges of killing a man during sporadic clashes at the shrine of Nurul Haquae alias Nural Pagla at Goalanda Upazila in Rajbari district. 
 
Md Azad Molla, 55, father of a victim who died in clashes linked to the incident filed the case with Goalanda Ghat Police Station on Monday night, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Inspector Rashidul Islam told BSS today. 
 
Two individuals including Imam of the local mosque Latif, 42, and Ranju, 29, were arrested in the murder case, he said. Of them, Latif was apprehended from a Manikganj char on Monday night.  
 
With the two, police have so far arrested 18 people on charges of demolishing the shrine of Nurul Haque, known locally as Nural Pagla, torching of his exhumed body and attacks on policemen in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari district.

According to the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser, 18 suspects were apprehended for vandalising police vehicles, demolishing shrine, engaging in clashes, committing murder, looting properties, exhuming body from grave and setting it on fire.
 
Earlier, on September 5 last, several hundred people under the banner of Iman-Aqeedah Rokkha Committee stormed the 'darbar sharif' of Nural Pagla after Juma prayers, exhumed his body and set it ablaze. 
 
The violence triggered sporadic clashes between his followers and local residents, leaving one person dead and many others injured, including a journalist.
 
Sub-inspector Selim Molla filed a case early Saturday with Goalanda Ghat Police Station accusing 3000 to 3500 unidentified people on charges of attacking police, obstructing police from performing government duty, vandalising government property and arson.
