Man sentenced to death in Cumilla murder case

CUMILLA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to death for raping and killing a child in Burichang upazila of the district in 2021.

Judge Abdul Hannan of the Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Court delivered the verdict in the afternoon. 

The verdict was given after taking the testimony of 17 witnesses. 

The convict is Moynal Hossain, son of late Khorshed Alam, a resident of Bharella village in Burichang upazila. 

According to prosecution, in 2021, convict Moynal Hossain raped and killed second-grade student Umme Habiba Meem in Bharella village of the upazila, wrapped her in polythene and hid her body in a toilet tank. 

The mother of the deceased Umme Habiba Meem filed a murder case with Burichang Police Station.
