DHAKA, April 30, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today sought Singapore’s cooperation in modernising Bangladesh’s primary education system, enhancing teachers’ skills, improving the curriculum, and developing a technology-driven education system.
He sought the cooperation when Charge d’Affaires of Singapore in Bangladesh Mitchel Lee met him at his Secretariat office here, said a PID release.
The State Minister said that special emphasis is currently being given to improving Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) in the country’s primary education.
In the area of language education, Bangladesh seeks to work anew to enhance reading comprehension, listening skills, speaking, writing and overall language proficiency, he added.
Bobby Hajjaj noted that Singapore’s primary education curriculum is widely regarded as highly effective and well-structured globally, and Bangladesh can benefit from its experience in this regard.
They had a fruitful discussion on various aspects of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
On the other hand, the Charge d’Affaires said that Singapore is ready to support Bangladesh under capacity-building programmes in the education sector.
He said study programmes could be arranged for government officials and representatives of the education administration to provide them with practical exposure to various aspects of Singapore’s education system.
Both sides expressed hope that development cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore would become more dynamic in the future through joint initiatives and partnership.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md. Shakhawat Hossain, Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Shahina Ferdousi, and Director General of the Bureau of Non-Formal Education Debabrata Chakraborty were present on the occasion.
