Speakers call for protecting Halda natural fish breeding ground to boost country’s fish production

RANGAMATI, Sept 10, 2025 (BSS) – Speakers at a stakeholders seminar today urged all concerned to work together to protect the breeding ground of Halda natural fish breeding ground aimed at increasing production of carp species of fishes in the country. 

Describing Halda as the biggest natural fish breeding ground in Asia, they stressed on taking all out efforts to protect the river from pollution so that the natural fish breeding ground is not hampered anymore.      

The stakeholder seminar on the development and management of Halda natural fish breeding ground project (2nd phase) was held at Kaptai upazila parishad auditorium here today.

District Fisheries Officer Adhir Chandra Das was present at the seminar as the chief guest with Assistant Commissioner (AC) Land of Kaptai Neli Rudra in the chair. 

Kaptai Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Sheikh Md Ershad Bin Rashid moderated the event while former Chairman of Kaptai upazila Parishad Dildar Hossain, Vice- President of district BNP Dr Rahmat Ullah, President of Kaptai upazila BNP Lokman Ahmed and senior Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Rangamati Ishtiaq Haider, addressed the seminar, among others.

Officials of different government and non-government offices, chairmen of different union parshad, representatives of law enforcing agencies, teachers, journalists, headmen and a number of fishermen were also present at the seminar.
