CHATTOGRAM, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today acquitted city mayor and former city unit BNP president Dr. Shahadat Hossain in three cases filed against him during the previous Awami League government.

Additional Metropolitan and Session Judge Abdur Raman passed the acquittal order, exempting the incumbent mayor from cases registered as Special Tribunal 525/20, 526/20, and 331/25.

The court based its decision on recommendations from the law wing of the Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, which reviewed the merit and intent of the cases.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Shahadat Hossain expressed satisfaction over the verdict, saying, "Justice has finally been upheld through the court's decision. These cases were filed during the previous government to suppress democratic activities and politically target opposition leaders, including me."

Advocate A. Kamrul Islam Chowdhury Sazzad, representing Dr. Shahadat, said the cases were part of political harassment.

Chattogram District Bar Association President Advocate Abdus Satter, former president Advocate Enamul Haque, and Metropolitan PP Advocate Mofizul Haque Buiyan appeared in court to file the acquittal petition.
