Two restaurants fined Tk 2.5 lakh in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court today fined two restaurants-Handi Restaurant and Dhaba Restaurant-a total of Taka 2.5 lakh in the GEC intersection area of the port city for serving stale and decomposed food items, as well as for using harmful substances in food preparation.

The mobile court, led by Md. Faiz Ullah, Deputy Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, conducted the drive on Thursday as part of a routine inspection to ensure food safety and consumer rights.

According to official sources, Handi Restaurant was fined Taka 1.5 lakh for preparing food in an unhygienic environment, storing mutton mixed with leftover rice, and serving stale fish, meat, rice, and other food items that had been cooked several days earlier.

Dhaba Restaurant was fined Taka 1 lakh for using harmful perfumes in their food, which pose serious health risks to consumers.

Md. Faiz Ullah said that, along with the fines, the two establishments were also issued official warnings and instructed to improve their food safety standards immediately.

He further said that similar drives will continue across the city to ensure the health and safety of consumers.
