Govt to import 95,000 MTs fertilizer

DHAKA, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) - The government today approved three separate 
proposals to import some 95,000 Metric Tons (MTs) of fertilizer to meet the 
growing demand.

The approvals came from the current year's 38th meeting of the Advisers 
Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held today with Finance 
Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed in the chair.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the government will 
procure 30,000 MTs of bulk granular urea fertilizer under the first lot from 
SABIC Agri-nutrients Company, Saudi Arabia at a cost of around Taka 164.59 
crore, with each ton priced at US$447.50.

Following another proposal from the ministry, the government will procure 
30,000 MTs of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer 
Company Limited (Kafco) at a cost of around Taka 152.59 crore, with each ton 
priced at $414.87.

In addition, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will 
procure 35,000 MTs of MOP fertilizer under the fourth lot of a state-level 
agreement with JSC Foreign Economic Corporation (Prodintorg), Russia at a 
cost of around Taka 154.90 crore, with each ton priced at $361.
