BAGERHAT, Sept 18, 2025 (BSS) – Tight security measures have been taken for the smooth celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community, in all upazilas of the district.

Durga Puja will be held in 617 puja mandaps this year in the district.

Of those, the Sharadiya Durga Utsav will be celebrated in 112 pavilions in Sadar upazila, 68 in Fakirhat upazila, 44 in Kachua upazila, 86 in Mollahat upazila, 73 in Morelganj upazila, 35 in Rampal upazila, 22 in Sharankhola upazila, 143 in Chitalmari upazila and 34 in Mongla upazila.

Newly-appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) Asaduzzaman held a meeting with the Upazila District Puja Udjapan Committee to discuss law and order to ensure smooth conduct of the biggest festival of Hindus.

In that meeting, he stated that there is no reason to worry about the upcoming festival. All the intelligence agencies, along with the law enforcement agencies, are on alert to ensure flawless security at every puja pavilion.

He has already instructed the officers-in-charge of the respective police stations in nine police stations and three municipalities to ensure all kinds of security for the visitors coming to the mandaps.

Besides, the police of each upazila are holding frequent meetings with civil society, political parties and the puja udjapan committees of the area.

A District Law and Order Committee meeting was held today at the Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner’s conference room with DC Ahmed Kamrul Hasan in the chair.

In the meeting, Ahmed Kamrul said that the police administration is always vigilant regarding the traditional Hindu Puja festival.

During visits to various temples, it was seen that idol-making with clay is in full swing, while many idol artists, locally known as pauls, are busy painting the idols to complete their work within the stipulated time.
